Representative Jamie Raskin, who serves Maryland’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently posted a series of tweets addressing former President Donald Trump’s actions and statements regarding Russia, Ukraine, and the ongoing controversy surrounding Jeffrey Epstein.

On August 16, 2025, Raskin criticized Trump’s approach to Russia and Ukraine by stating: “Trump said he was going to Russia (instead of Alaska), and he may as well have done that. Putin just rolled all over him. The American people and Congress must stand strong for Ukraine against this humiliating appeasement.”

Two days later, on August 18, Raskin addressed Trump’s handling of matters related to Jeffrey Epstein: “The only emergency Trump’s responding to in Washington is a public relations crisis caused by his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein and his stubborn refusal to release the Epstein files despite his repeated promises to do so. Even a real emergency does not give him power to take”

Later that same day, Raskin commented on financial settlements paid by news organizations for publishing false information about the 2020 presidential election: “This is nearly $900 million that news entities have had to pay out for publishing lies about the 2020 presidential election. Yet Donald Trump, who lost by more than seven million votes, keeps repeating the Big Lie and makes it compulsory dogma for his employees.”

Jamie Raskin has represented Maryland’s 8th District in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Chris Van Hollen. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of both the Maryland House of Representatives and the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington D.C. in 1962 and currently residing in Takoma Park at age 60, Raskin graduated from Harvard University with a BA in 1983 before earning his JD from Harvard Law School in 1987.
