Rep. Jamie Raskin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, has used his social media platform to criticize recent actions by former President Trump and highlight concerns about food assistance programs.
On November 4, 2025, Raskin posted about a legal challenge involving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits: “President Trump sent lawyers to court begging and pleading to let them rip away SNAP from 41 million hungry Americans. They lost big-time. Democrats will keep fighting to make sure the GOP’s Marie Antoinettes and Make Gatsby Great Again billionaires fail in their effort to https://t.co/7oseAgN5Xn”.
Later that day, Raskin commented on Trump’s remarks concerning high-profile sexual abuse cases: “Here I thought Trump was finally expressing sympathy for Virginia Giuffre’s family and the other victims of his leering wing man Jeffrey Epstein—but nope, it was the Royal family and poor ex-Prince Andrew that Trump feels so badly for. https://t.co/9GS7pxu441”.
In another post on November 4, Raskin addressed ongoing concerns over SNAP during a government shutdown: “41 million Americans depend on SNAP for their next meal. But the Trump Administration is trying to use their government shutdown to rip benefits away. I visited Manna Food Center in Gaithersburg to hear from local advocates how a SNAP cutoff would deepen food shortages already https://t.co/i8muff2LHq”.
Jamie Raskin has served as a U.S. Representative since succeeding Chris Van Hollen in 2017 and previously held office in the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1962, he resides in Takoma Park and holds degrees from Harvard University and Harvard Law School.
