Rep. Jamie Raskin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, has voiced criticism of President Trump and congressional Republicans over their handling of foreign policy and immigration enforcement funding in a series of tweets posted on April 29 and 30, 2026.

On April 29, Raskin wrote: “The American people don’t want the oligarchs’ war in Iran and ICE’s war in our streets. We want affordable health care for every family. Who exactly are President Trump and Speaker Johnson fighting for? Not us.”

Continuing his criticism the next day, Raskin stated: “As President Trump spends billions of dollars for his aggressive and foolish war of choice in Iran, congressional Republicans are handing him billions more to fund ICE chaos in our communities. The GOP has a destructive agenda.” (April 30).

Later on April 30, he commented on recent legislative developments regarding funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS): “The House GOP finally caved in to reality and joined House Democrats, Senate Democrats and Senate Republicans in voting to fund the rest of DHS except for the dangerously lawless ICE and Border Patrol. Why did Speaker Johnson make hardworking FEMA officials, TSA and Secret”.

Jamie Raskin was born in Washington, D.C., in 1962 and resides in Takoma Park. He holds degrees from Harvard University (BA, 1983) and Harvard Law School (JD, 1987). Before serving in Congress, Raskin was a member of the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016.
