Rep. Jamie Raskin, who has represented Maryland’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, published a series of tweets criticizing actions taken by former President Donald Trump and the Supreme Court between August 2 and August 4, 2025.

On August 2, Raskin posted: “Trump’s illegal tariffs and budget-busting billionaire tax cuts have run down U.S. job growth but, instead of pulling back from these blunders, an inflamed Trump just blamed the messenger and fired the Commissioner of Labor Statistics.”

Later that day, he addressed another controversy involving Ghislaine Maxwell: “The whole world’s watching this ludicrous coverup unfold as Trump’s team moves convicted sex offender Maxwell to a minimum security camp after Trump’s lawyer found she answered all his questions correctly. Nobody’s falling for this fraud—release the files.” The post referenced concerns about transparency regarding high-profile legal cases.

On August 4, Raskin criticized recent Supreme Court decisions: “MAGA’s packed-and-stacked Supreme Court opened the door to extreme partisan gerrymandering in the states. Democrats must use every tool at our disposal to stop this Orban-style one-party takeover of our government.”

Jamie Raskin was born in Washington, D.C., in 1962 and currently resides in Takoma Park. He graduated from Harvard University with a BA in 1983 and earned a JD from Harvard Law School in 1987. Before joining Congress in 2017—succeeding Chris Van Hollen—he served on the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016.
