Rep. Jamie Raskin, who represents Maryland’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, has issued a series of statements on social media regarding recent political developments and local recognition efforts.
On September 25, 2025, Raskin commented on ongoing government funding negotiations, stating: “Trump is now using the livelihoods of our federal workers as coercive leverage while refusing to negotiate to keep the government open. Democrats will stand strong for the health care of the people and the rights of federal workers.” He also provided a link to his full statement.
The following day, on September 26, Raskin responded to news involving former FBI Director James Comey: “Trump’s ordered indictment of former FBI Director James Comey is a baseless act of personal vengeance and one more savage assault on justice in America.”
In a separate post later that day, Raskin highlighted Dr. Eric Green as his MD-08 Local Hero for the week: “This week’s MD-08 Local Hero is the formidable Dr. Eric Green, former Director of the National Human Genome Research Institute at NIH. For more than three decades, before being sacked by DOGE, Dr. Green led critical genomic medical research for the American people.”
Jamie Raskin has served in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Chris Van Hollen and previously held positions in Maryland state government from 2007 to 2016. He was born in Washington, D.C., in 1962 and resides in Takoma Park. Raskin earned both his undergraduate degree and law degree from Harvard University.
