Rep. Jamie Raskin, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, used his social media platform to comment on the events of January 6, 2021 and criticize supporters of former President Donald Trump in a series of posts published on September 8 and 9, 2025.
On September 8, Raskin wrote: “If MAGA wants to return to the scene of the crime, we’ll just tell the truth. Trump incited a violent mob on January 6, 2021 to block the peaceful transfer of power after he lost the election 306-232 and failed in 60 federal and state court lawsuits.”
The following day, Raskin posted: “MAGA and their rag-outlets not only pretend January 6, 2021 was a ‘beautiful day,’ as Trump says, but defame police—many of whom were beaten, hospitalized and disabled by Trump’s rampaging mob—who bravely defended our democracy. Back the Blue or Back the Coup? It’s up to you.” This message referred to both comments made by former President Trump regarding January 6 and highlighted injuries sustained by law enforcement officers during the Capitol riot.
Later that same day, Raskin added: “When MAGA returns to the scene of their crimes, we’ll tell how cops were beaten, Trump tried to steal & overthrow an election & many of Trump’s pardoned rioters went right back to committing crimes. Honored to serve as a Truth Squad w/ Reps. Swalwell, Crockett & Moskowitz on”
Jamie Raskin has served in Congress since replacing Chris Van Hollen in Maryland’s 8th District in 2017. Before his tenure in Congress, he was a member of both the Maryland House of Representatives and Senate from 2007 through 2016. Born in Washington D.C., Raskin graduated from Harvard University with a BA in 1983 and earned his JD from Harvard Law School in 1987.
These recent posts continue Raskin’s public commentary on efforts surrounding January 6 and ongoing political debates over its legacy.
