Rep. Jamie Raskin, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, addressed health care and social benefit issues in a series of tweets on October 31, 2025.

In a tweet posted at 14:42 UTC, Raskin criticized congressional leadership and vaccine misinformation, stating: “Speaker Johnson & MAGA are hellbent on raising health insurance premiums for millions while RFK Jr. spreads vaccine misinformation & pulls the plug on vaccination programs.

We can’t continue down this deadly path. Let’s reverse the health care cuts AND reopen the government.”

Later that day, at 21:44 UTC, he commented on federal court decisions regarding food assistance programs: “Two federal courts agree that emergency SNAP fund benefits must be paid NOW. The Trump administration must act with the same speed and seriousness to get food benefits to our people that it has acted with to deport immigrants, destroy public health and bulldoze the White House.”

At 21:52 UTC, Raskin highlighted local community figures in his district: “This week’s Local Heroes are Dr. Ligia Peralta and Rebecca Davis. Dr. Peralta is a community physician attending to our people and fighting for everyone’s right to care. Rebecca is a breast cancer survivor telling Congress why ACA credits to matter to millions of Americans.”

Jamie Raskin has represented Maryland’s 8th District in Congress since replacing Chris Van Hollen in 2017. He previously served in the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016 after earning degrees from Harvard University (BA) and Harvard Law School (JD). Born in Washington, D.C., in 1962, Raskin currently resides in Takoma Park.
