Rep. Jamie Raskin, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, posted a series of tweets on January 22 and 23, 2026, criticizing the Department of Homeland Security under Secretary Noem and defending Special Counsel Jack Smith.

On January 22, Raskin stated his opposition to funding for the Department of Homeland Security under the Trump administration: “Under @Sec_Noem’s leadership, DHS and ICE have made America less safe and less free every day, trampling our Constitution, terrifying our people and blocking congressional oversight. I am of course voting to oppose legislation to fund Donald Trump’s DHS.”

The following day, he commented on House Republicans’ questioning of Special Counsel Jack Smith: “House Republicans couldn’t lay a glove on Jack Smith, not just because he’s a serious professional prosecutor but because he never strayed from the documented facts.”

In another tweet posted later that day, Raskin criticized former President Donald Trump while continuing his defense of Jack Smith: “When Donald Trump invokes “large scale perjury,” he obviously knows whereof he speaks. He is the undisputed living master of the Big Lie. But can he and his cult followers identify a single lie Jack Smith told? https://t.co/3AydxqRshM”

Jamie Raskin has represented Maryland’s 8th District in Congress since succeeding Chris Van Hollen in 2017. Before serving in Congress, Raskin was a member of the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1962, Raskin currently resides in Takoma Park. He graduated from Harvard University with a BA in 1983 and earned his JD from Harvard Law School in 1987.
