Rep. Jamie Raskin, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, posted a series of tweets on August 25 and 26, 2025, addressing topics ranging from music history to legal developments involving former President Donald Trump.
On August 25, Raskin marked the anniversary of Bruce Springsteen’s landmark album with a tribute: “A half-century ago today, Springsteen released Born to Run, an album that blew the hinges off all the doors and split the city in half. Thanks to Bruce and the E Street Band for showing us so much faith—there’s still magic in the night.”
Later that day, he questioned Donald Trump’s stance on violent crime and recent pardons related to the January 6 Capitol attack: “If Trump wants to throw the book at people who commit ‘violent crime’ while desecrating the American flag, why did he pardon people who on Jan. 6, 2021 violently assaulted our cops with American flags-on-poles, calling them heroes and rewarding their bloody flag desecration?”
On August 26, Raskin commented on a judicial decision dismissing a lawsuit by Trump against a federal court: “A sweeping and powerful opinion by United States District Judge Thomas Cullen dismissing Trump’s absurd lawsuit against the entire United States District Court in Maryland. Before MAGA starts whining again about ‘rogue left-wing judges,’ they should look up who nominated Judge https://t.co/I7BPCrwvpm”
Jamie Raskin has represented Maryland’s 8th Congressional District since replacing Chris Van Hollen in Congress in 2017. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served on the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016. Raskin was born in Washington, D.C., in 1962 and resides in Takoma Park. He is also an alumnus of Harvard University and Harvard Law School.
