Rep. Jamie Raskin, a current member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 8th district, has recently made several statements on social media addressing various political issues. His remarks touch upon actions taken by prominent figures and their implications for civil servants, international relations, and human rights.

On February 20, 2025, Rep. Raskin criticized Elon Musk for his decision to terminate numerous IRS employees during tax season along with VA health researchers and other civil servants. He stated that “Elon Musk fired thousands of IRS workers in tax season, hundreds of VA health researchers and countless other civil servants doing their jobs.” According to him, these actions disrupt the lives of public employees and complicate life for American citizens.

Later on the same day, Raskin commented on former President Trump’s characterization of Ukrainian President Zelensky as a dictator. In his tweet at 21:09 UTC, he noted that “President Trump calls Zelensky a ‘dictator,’ which can’t be true because Trump loves all the dictators.” He criticized Trump’s approach towards Russian President Putin amidst the conflict in Ukraine and reflected on historical lessons regarding dictatorship.

On February 22, 2025, Rep. Raskin acknowledged MaryBeth Hastings for her dedication to human rights work within Maryland’s 8th District despite recent challenges faced by USAID. He expressed gratitude in his post stating “MaryBeth Hastings has devoted her career to human rights…Thanks MaryBeth for reminding us: foreign aid is critical for democratic solidarity.”
