Rep. Jamie Raskin, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, marked the anniversary of September 11 with a series of posts reflecting on national tragedy, community service, and bipartisan collaboration.
On September 11, 2025, Raskin posted: “On September 11, we solemnly remember nearly 3,000 Americans killed in the worst terror attacks in our nation’s history. In the resulting inferno, our police and first responders ran into danger to rescue our citizens.
May the memories of all the patriots and heroes we lost be a” (September 11, 2025).
Later that day, he recognized local volunteer Joann Donnellan for her ongoing service: “This week’s Local Hero is Joann Donnellan. Whether advocating for the Alzheimer’s Association, volunteering at St. Ann’s Center for Children or leading a meal pack honoring the memory of all those we lost on 9/11, this MD-08 Local Hero leads a life of service & engagement.” (September 11, 2025).
On September 12, Raskin addressed fellow lawmaker Congressman Knott: “Congressman Knott, it’s been a real pleasure getting to know you. Our whole Committee benefits from your deep experience and perspective as a prosecutor.
Although we definitely appeared on opposite sides yesterday, it was an honor to be there with you for your first bill and I” (September 12, 2025).
Jamie Raskin has served in Congress since replacing Chris Van Hollen in Maryland’s 8th district in 2017. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature between 2007 and 2016. Born in Washington D.C., Raskin graduated from Harvard University with a BA in 1983 and earned his JD from Harvard Law School in 1987.
