Rep. Jamie Raskin, who represents Maryland’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, announced on March 26, 2026, that he and colleagues are taking legislative steps to address mental health care needs across the country.
In a series of posts on his official Twitter account, Raskin wrote: “THREAD: Today we’re taking urgent action to help millions of Americans who struggle with their mental health: introducing two bipartisan bills to help people in crisis get both the immediate care and the follow-up care they need.” (March 26, 2026).
He also provided information for those seeking immediate assistance: “If you need immediate mental health support at any time of day, dial 988 to be connected to the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Counselors can also be reached by text message or online chat. You may also dial 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.” (March 26, 2026).
Additionally, Raskin introduced a specific piece of legislation aimed at improving crisis response: “I’m also introducing the 9-8-8 Connect Act with @RepBrianFitz to help organizations connect individuals experiencing a behavioral or mental health crisis with follow-up services.” (March 26, 2026).
