Rep. Jamie Raskin, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, used his social media platform to address issues ranging from women’s rights to constitutional protections and presidential pardons in a series of posts on March 8 and 9, 2026.

On March 8, Raskin marked International Women’s Day by stating, “Happy International Women’s Day! Today we recognize all the women leaders who contributed to moving our country forward and we renew our commitment to fight for equal rights, equal pay and reproductive rights for all.”

The following day, he commented on religious freedom and constitutional principles in response to Andy Ogles. On March 9, Raskin posted: “Racism and religious bigotry are the lie—not pluralism—and Andy Ogles doesn’t know the American Constitution, which guarantees Free Exercise of Religion, no Establishment of Religion, Equal Protection and no religious tests for public office. Ogles is lucky there’s no https://t.co/bN4lFHjN3m”.

Later that day, Raskin criticized former President Trump’s decision to pardon individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol riot. He wrote: “When President Trump pardoned 1,600 rioters who broke into the Capitol on January 6, 2021, he released numerous violent felons and repeat offenders back into our communities. His pardoned supporters keep committing crimes against other people.”

Jamie Raskin has served as Maryland’s representative in Congress since replacing Chris Van Hollen in 2017. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington D.C. in 1962 and currently residing in Takoma Park at age 60, Raskin holds both a BA (1983) and JD (1987) from Harvard University.
