Rep. Jamie Raskin, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, addressed a range of topics in recent posts on his official Twitter account, including religious celebrations, First Amendment rights, and press freedom at the Pentagon.
On April 14, 2026, Raskin extended greetings to the Sikh community: “To Sikh Americans in MD-08 and all those celebrating around the world: happy Vaisakhi. May you rejoice during this harvest festival with family and friends.”
Later that day, he commented on free speech issues involving prominent figures: “Gee, Pope Leo is a U.S. citizen with every bit as much right to speak about America as JD Vance has. That’s the First Amendment—the same one protecting convicted felon Donald Trump’s blasphemous impersonation of Jesus Christ and attacks on the Pope as ‘soft on crime.’ The Pope” (April 14, 2026).
On April 15, 2026, Raskin criticized restrictions placed on journalists covering the Pentagon: “Secretary Hegseth thinks the First Amendment doesn’t apply to him, but the Constitution covers the Pentagon, too. He must immediately reverse his draconian restrictions on the Pentagon press corps and stop interfering with the distinguished, nonpartisan journalism of”.
Jamie Raskin has represented Maryland’s 8th District in Congress since replacing Chris Van Hollen in 2017. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of both the Maryland House of Representatives and Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington D.C. in 1962 and currently residing in Takoma Park at age 60, Raskin holds degrees from Harvard University and Harvard Law School.
