Representative Jamie Raskin, who has served Maryland’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, posted a series of tweets in August 2025 addressing issues ranging from economic policy to personnel changes within federal agencies.
On August 20, Raskin criticized former President Donald Trump’s impact on the economy, writing: “GREAT WORK, DONALD TRUMP, RAISING PRICES FOR ALL AMERICANS AND MAKING GOODS AND SERVICES MORE EXPENSIVE! IF NOT FOR YOUR NEGOTIATING SKILLS AND MANY BANKRUPTCIES, HOW WOULD WE ALL MANAGE?! THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORK INCREASING THE COST OF LIVING SIR!”
Two days later, on August 22, Raskin commented on law enforcement actions involving John Bolton: “Equal justice under law—unless the president doesn’t like what you have to say! Today’s raid on John Bolton’s home follows Trump revoking his security detail and security clearance and Kash Patel putting Bolton on his enemies list.”
Later that same day, he highlighted local developments in education: “Dr. Ethan Taylor and Dr. Karen Armstrong were distinguished federal workers—sacked by DOGE. Now, thanks to an accelerated teaching program at Montgomery College, these MD-08 Local Heroes are starting Monday as MCPS teachers. The federal government’s loss is our students’ gain!”
Jamie Raskin was born in Washington, D.C., in 1962 and currently resides in Takoma Park. He earned both his undergraduate degree and JD from Harvard University. Before joining Congress in 2017 after succeeding Chris Van Hollen, he served in the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016.
