Rep. Jamie Raskin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, has used his social media platform to comment on former President Donald Trump and recent international events.

On August 19, 2025, Raskin addressed calls for another investigation into the events of January 6, writing: “Trump wants another probe into J6–great! Let’s review how he organized extremist groups, Christian white nationalists and MAGA politicians to attack an election he lost 306-237 in the electoral college and by more than 7 million votes. Let’s start by hearing from 140 wounded”.

The following day, August 20, Raskin commented on a diplomatic event in Alaska: “In Alaska, we saw a lawless president who excuses the bloody imperialist invasion of Ukraine roll out the red carpet for a lawless president who ordered the bloody imperialist invasion of Ukraine. The democratic world must stand against the dictators.”

Later that same day, Raskin compared statements made by Elon Musk and Donald Trump regarding historical accountability and anti-trafficking programs: “Just like Elon Musk, who told Germany’s ultra-Right party there’s ‘too much of a focus on past guilt’ in their country, Trump says the Smithsonian is too ‘focused on how bad Slavery was.’ Of course, a guy wiping out anti-human trafficking programs in our government and trying to”.

Jamie Raskin has served in Congress since replacing Chris Van Hollen in 2017. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature between 2007 and 2016. Born in Washington D.C. in 1962 and currently residing in Takoma Park at age 60, Raskin is also an alumnus of Harvard University and Harvard Law School.
