Rep. Jamie Raskin, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, has recently posted a series of tweets addressing actions by the Trump Administration and highlighting local achievements.

On May 7, 2026, Raskin criticized the Trump Administration for its handling of unionized workers at the Kennedy Center. He stated in his post: “The Trump Administration is using its unlawful closure of the Kennedy Center as a pretext for illegally firing dozens of unionized workers there. Trump can no more rename this the “Trump-Kennedy Center” than he can rename its neighbor the “Trump-Lincoln Memorial.” These”.

Later that day, Raskin addressed concerns regarding federal charitable giving programs. In his tweet dated May 7, 2026, he wrote: “Every year, federal workers generously donate millions through the Combined Federal Campaign, the world’s largest workplace giving program. Now, the Trump Administration wants to shut down this lifeline for countless charities.

Let’s work to save the CFC for the sick kids,”.

On May 8, 2026, Raskin shifted focus to local recognition in his district by announcing: “This week’s MD-08 Local Hero is Wootton High School junior Victoria Alexander, who won our 10th annual congressional art competition for her exquisitely moving work, A Warm Embrace. Come check out the gallery of all our student exhibitors’ remarkable artwork on display at VisArts”.

Jamie Raskin was born in Washington, D.C., in 1962 and currently resides in Takoma Park. He succeeded Chris Van Hollen in Congress and previously served in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature from 2007 to 2016. Raskin holds degrees from Harvard University and Harvard Law School.
