Rep. Jamie Raskin, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, has recently addressed issues affecting Maryland families and national policy in a series of posts on his official Twitter account.

On January 20, 2026, Raskin highlighted the financial impact of tariffs under former President Trump: “In 2025, Maryland families spent on average $1,326 more on goods and services because of Trump’s bruising tariffs, according to @JECDems. Our people are paying more for housing, food and health care while Trump pockets more than a billion dollars in office and takes a wrecking”.

Later that day, he reported an administrative change regarding student loan collections: “A bit of good news—Trump Admin will delay its plan to seize tax refunds and garnish wages from student loan borrowers after @RepAdams and I sounded the alarm on their plan to go after alleged defaulters without any real due process. We’re watching to make sure borrowers in”. The post referenced efforts by himself and Rep. Alma Adams to prevent actions against student loan defaulters that lack due process.

On January 21, 2026, Raskin called for Senate action on healthcare legislation: “The Senate can and should vote on legislation the House passed to extend ACA tax credits and protect affordable health care for all. What is the Senate GOP waiting for? The health of the American people is on the line.”

Jamie Raskin was born in Washington, D.C., in 1962 and currently resides in Takoma Park. He holds both a BA (1983) and JD (1987) from Harvard University. Before serving in Congress, Raskin was a member of the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016.
