Rep. Jamie Raskin, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, posted a series of messages on social media addressing the start of the school year, gun violence in Minnesota, and the release of federal funds for AmeriCorps.

On August 27, 2025, Raskin offered encouragement to students and expressed gratitude to educators and parents: “To all of MoCo’s young scholars and athletes, we wish you an amazing start to a great new school year. Thank you to the dedicated administrators, teachers and parents who open all the doors and pathways.”

Later that day, he commented on recent violence in Minnesota: “A staggering nightmare in Minnesota as the ravages of gun violence continue to destroy the lives of children across America. We pray for those killed, injured and traumatized and WE MUST ACT NOW TO STOP GUN VIOLENCE.”

On August 29, 2025, Raskin highlighted congressional action regarding AmeriCorps funding: “A big victory for Americorps Members, volunteers & communities as $200 million appropriated by Congress is finally released, overthrowing the attempt by Trump to confiscate & redirect it. Thanks to @OAGMaryland Anthony Brown & other state AGs for fighting hard for our people.”
