Rep. Jamie Raskin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, used his social media platform to address issues ranging from LGBTQIA+ rights to concerns over federal funds management in early June 2026.
On June 1, Raskin marked Pride Month with a call for continued vigilance in defending civil liberties, posting: “This Pride Month let’s resolve to keep defending the civil rights and liberties of our LGBTQIA+ neighbors and of all Americans against authoritarian clampdown. Happy Pride and keep pride in democracy.”
The following day, Raskin turned his attention to allegations regarding former President Trump and the use of taxpayer money. On June 2, he wrote, “President Trump’s extraordinarily corrupt slush fund would funnel $1.8 billion of taxpayer money to his political patrons and January 6 white nationalist foot soldiers. While the courts blocked the DOJ scheme for now, Congress still must act to bar this dirty deal forever.”
Later that same day, Raskin advocated for bipartisan legislative action on the issue, stating, “We obviously can’t take Todd Blanche at his word. Democrats and Republicans must join together to pass our bill to shut down Trump’s slush fund permanently (FOREVER!) and block any future presidential schemes to steer federal settlement money to themselves or private militias”.
Jamie Raskin has served in Congress since 2017 after replacing Chris Van Hollen. He previously held office in both the Maryland House of Representatives and Maryland Senate between 2007 and 2016. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1962, Raskin is currently a resident of Takoma Park. He holds degrees from Harvard University (BA) and Harvard Law School (JD).
