Rep. Jamie Raskin, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, has recently shared a series of posts on social media addressing local celebrations, student achievements, and legislative efforts.
On May 10, Raskin extended holiday greetings to families in his district and nationwide with the message: “Happy Mother’s Day to all the great mothers in MD-08 and across America. We thank you for your love, tender care and wisdom.”
A day later, on May 11, he highlighted the accomplishments of young artists from his constituency by stating: “I am grateful for the creative high school student artists from Maryland’s Eighth who participated in our 10th annual Congressional Art Competition. Congratulations to Victoria Alexander, a junior at Wootton High School, who took home the top prize for her beautiful piece https://t.co/RfTG9xNHrS”
On May 12, Raskin addressed federal retirement policy issues concerning uniformed officers during government shutdowns: “Retired @NOAA Corps Officers and @USPHSCC Officers dedicated their working lives to the health and safety of our people. But during a government shutdown, they don’t get the pensions they earned. I’m introducing the bipartisan Pensions for Retired Uniformed Servicemembers Act to”
Jamie Raskin succeeded Chris Van Hollen as representative of Maryland’s 8th district in 2017. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of both the Maryland House of Representatives and Maryland Senate between 2007 and 2016. Born in Washington D.C., Raskin is currently based in Takoma Park. He completed his undergraduate studies at Harvard University in 1983 before earning his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1987.
