Rep. Jamie Raskin, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, posted a series of tweets on February 3 and 4, 2026, addressing both local leadership transitions and national policy concerns.

On February 3, Raskin acknowledged the career of a local official in Somerset: “Mayor Jeffrey Slavin makes a big announcement after a powerful and effective career as Mayor and Councilperson in the extraordinary town of Somerset. We know Jeffrey’s service to our community and state will continue in other significant ways. Long may he run.”

Later that day, Raskin criticized former President Donald Trump’s spending priorities regarding health care and immigration enforcement: “Donald Trump invites Americans to believe there’s no money left to make health care affordable while he spends billions of taxpayer dollars to hire masked ICE & Border Patrol agents to intimidate, attack, arrest & even kill our people. Mr. President, we reject these” (posted February 3).

The following morning, Raskin continued his criticism of federal immigration enforcement practices: “America sees the brutal violence ICE and Border Patrol are inflicting on our people and won’t allow it to continue. Trump and Noem underestimate the American people—as they say in Minneapolis, ‘We’ve got eyes/so stop your lies.'” (posted February 4).

Jamie Raskin has served in Congress since replacing Chris Van Hollen in 2017. Before his tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives, he served on the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington D.C., Raskin currently resides in Takoma Park and holds degrees from Harvard University and Harvard Law School.
