Representative Jamie Raskin, who serves Maryland’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on his Twitter account addressing issues ranging from legislative responsibilities to gun violence.
On September 10, 2025, Raskin emphasized the evolving role of lawmakers during turbulent times, writing: “The times that we are in force us to think not just like legislators, but like litigators (not to mention demonstrators). @HouseDemocrats are using every means available to defend the Constitution and the rights of the people against tyrants and ripoff artists.”
Later that day, he commented on broader political trends: “Authoritarianism thrives on fear and intimidation. But courage is contagious and people are standing up everywhere against the onslaught.” This statement was posted as concerns about democratic institutions and civil liberties continue across various parts of society.
In a separate post also dated September 10, Raskin addressed a recent incident involving public figure Charlie Kirk: “Condemning another absolutely disgraceful act of gun violence. My thoughts & prayers are w/ Charlie Kirk & his family in this terrible moment & we are all grateful for first responders who immediately jumped into action. We must categorically reject all violence in our society.”
Jamie Raskin has represented Maryland’s 8th District since 2017 after succeeding Chris Van Hollen. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington D.C. in 1962 and residing in Takoma Park, Raskin holds degrees from Harvard University and Harvard Law School.
