Jamie Raskin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, has been vocal on several issues through his social media presence. Raskin, who succeeded Chris Van Hollen in Congress and previously served in the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016, shared his thoughts on labor rights, political rhetoric, and public service.

On July 9, 2025, Raskin expressed support for food service workers associated with @unitehere. He stated: “Food service workers with @unitehere keep the People’s House nourished and running. I’m proud to stand in solidarity with them as they demand that the House’s new food vendor preserve their jobs and the strong union contract they’ve negotiated.”

Later that day, he addressed a fellow Congress member’s comments: “I know you’re new to Congress, Mr. Fine, but we don’t call our colleagues terrorists here. It just makes you look idiotic. At a time when MN Democrats have been targeted for assassination by a right-wing extremist, your rhetoric is seriously dangerous. Apologize now.” This tweet highlights concerns over inflammatory language amid heightened tensions.

On July 11, 2025, Raskin commented on the dismissal of public servants during Trump’s administration: “Cancer researchers, air traffic controllers, food safety inspectors and other experts are committed public servants who serve the people, not the president. Trump and DOGE sacked them by the thousands and now we’re seeing the consequences.” His remarks underline ongoing discussions about staffing impacts on essential services.

Raskin was born in Washington D.C., graduated from Harvard University with a BA in 1983 and later earned a JD from Harvard Law School in 1987. He currently resides in Takoma Park.
