In a post on October 7, 2025, Raskin criticized former President Trump and Speaker Johnson for their approach to health care and the government shutdown: “Trump and Johnson are prepared to double our health care premiums and keep the government closed just to keep MAGA corruption and their war on the working middle class going. Democrats say no way. Cancel the cuts, expand health care and restore government to the people.”
Later that day, Raskin commented on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas: “Hamas’ horrific terror attacks on Israelis on Oct. 7 brought shame to humanity. Each day of the two years of war has brought shocking suffering to civilians in Gaza & isolation to Israelis. It’s time to bring the hostages home, end this savage war & surge aid to Gaza.”
In another post on October 7, 2025, Raskin alleged that a leaked memo revealed an attempt by Trump to deny backpay to furloughed federal employees following a government shutdown: “A leaked memo shows Trump is trying to deny furloughed federal employees the backpay they are legally entitled to after the government shutdown ends. Jamie Raskin has served in Congress since 2017, succeeding Chris Van Hollen. He previously held positions in Maryland’s state legislature from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1962, Raskin currently resides in Takoma Park. He is an alumnus of Harvard University, holding both undergraduate and law degrees.
