Rep. Jamie Raskin, who represents Maryland’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets criticizing recent congressional actions and addressing issues related to health care policy and the economy.
On October 2, 2025, Raskin commented on the impact of a government shutdown on House proceedings: “By shutting government down yesterday, Johnson also avoided swearing in Rep.-Elect Adelita Grijalva, who will be the 218th and final signature required to force a House vote on the discharge petition releasing the Epstein Files. They’re not only wrecking health care for https://t.co/mPQ6lHe1QC”.
The following day, October 3, Raskin responded to claims about benefits for undocumented immigrants: “What a pathetic lie, @JDVance. Nobody’s arguing for benefits for people who are undocumented. But now that we’ve cleared that up, are you saying you WILL support continued ACA health care tax credits for millions of U.S. CITIZENS? That’s what we’re fighting for! https://t.co/dNfclcXMnq”.
Later that same day, he referenced a post by the President of the United States and raised questions about economic conditions under former President Trump: “This was posted by the President of the United States—a job once held by Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and FDR. Meantime, has the price of groceries or housing gone down for your family? How’s your kid’s job search going in the Trump economy? https://t.co/y5mYbwPND3”.
Jamie Raskin has represented Maryland’s 8th District since 2017 after succeeding Chris Van Hollen. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served both in the Maryland House of Representatives and on the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington D.C. in 1962 and currently residing in Takoma Park at age 60, Raskin is an alumnus of Harvard University with degrees from both its undergraduate college (1983) and law school (1987).
