Rep. Jamie Raskin, who represents Maryland’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on November 4 and 5, 2025, addressing economic inequality, support for federal workers, and advocacy for the LGBTQIA+ community.
On November 4, Raskin criticized former President Donald Trump’s approach to social welfare programs, stating: “While throwing Great Gatsby parties for the billionaires and building a Marie Antoinette Ballroom the size of nearly two football fields, Trump steers his bulldozer at American families on SNAP benefits trying to eat in his Hunger Games economy.”
Later that day, he highlighted local efforts to assist displaced federal employees in Montgomery County: “Solidarity is the watchword in Montgomery County, which is meeting the moment for displaced federal workers with the excellent new Mobilize Montgomery Federal Workforce Career Center in Wheaton. It’s a first-of-its-kind one-stop-shop to help civil servants bulldozed by Trump get”
On November 5, Raskin expressed appreciation for an organization supporting LGBTQIA+ individuals: “The MoCo Pride Center is a shining light for the LGBTQIA+ community. Thank you for standing strong as so many Americans face unrelenting attacks from a cruel and divisive administration.”
Jamie Raskin has served in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Chris Van Hollen. He previously held positions in both the Maryland House of Representatives and Senate from 2007 to 2016. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1962 and currently residing in Takoma Park, Raskin holds degrees from Harvard University and Harvard Law School.
