U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin, who serves Maryland’s 8th district, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing issues ranging from crime statistics and federal funding to community leadership and tax policy.

On September 5, 2025, Raskin responded to references about the television show “The Wire” and discussed crime rates in Baltimore compared to Baton Rouge. He wrote: “The Wire? Um, came out 23 years ago & was a fictional TV show, ie made-up! Crime’s down in the real Baltimore. Homicide is terrible in Speaker Johnson’s Baton Rouge. Why don’t we work together to restore $800 million in DOJ local police & community security grants that DOGE cut?”

Later that day, Raskin highlighted a local figure for his contributions to public education and business in Montgomery County. He stated: “Balancing a dazzling career in business with a passionate commitment to Montgomery County and public education, this week’s Local Hero, Kevin Beverly, is an extraordinary leader for our community in difficult times.”

On September 6, 2025, Raskin criticized former President Donald Trump’s administration regarding IRS policies. He wrote: ” Locking the doors on tax help centers for middle-class Americans. Letting the billionaires cheat. That’s Trump’s IRS. Great job, Donald. Great job.”

Jamie Raskin has represented Maryland’s 8th District in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Chris Van Hollen. Before joining Congress, he served on the Maryland Senate from 2007 to 2016 and previously held office in the Maryland House of Representatives. Born in Washington D.C. in 1962 and currently residing in Takoma Park at age 60, Raskin holds both undergraduate and law degrees from Harvard University.
