On June 19, 2025, Raskin commemorated Juneteenth with a message reflecting on historical emancipation efforts while acknowledging ongoing challenges. He tweeted: “On Juneteenth, we commemorate the news of emancipation finally reaching America’s last enslaved people, and we recommit to fighting to deliver the true promise of America for all, even against right-wing backlash.”
Jamie Raskin has served in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Chris Van Hollen. Prior to this role, he was part of the Maryland Senate from 2007 until 2016. Born in Washington D.C., he graduated from Harvard University with a BA in 1983 and later earned a JD from Harvard Law School in 1987.
