Rep. Jamie Raskin, a U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 8th district since 2017, posted a series of statements on social media addressing issues of antisemitism, racism, and alleged corruption in national politics.
On May 12, 2026, Raskin recognized Jewish American Heritage Month by stating: “During Jewish American Heritage Month, we honor the contributions and service of Jewish Americans to our public life and culture. Together we uplift our extraordinary history and recommit to root out toxic antisemitism, and all other forms of organized hate, in our society and”.
Later that day, he addressed recent comments made by two state Delegates about their colleague Del. Chao Wu: “I join elected leaders from across party and geographic lines to condemn the imbecilic and appallingly racist and xenophobic comments made by two state Delegates about their colleague, Del. Chao Wu. In the beautifully diverse Free State of Maryland, we will never tolerate”.
On May 13, 2026, Raskin commented on former President Trump’s financial dealings: “In his first term, President Trump ran a brick-and-mortar grift. Now the corruption has gone digital. The Trump family is using the presidency to line their pockets with billions of dollars, all while Americans struggle to pay for groceries, gas and health care. Let them eat https://t.co/DpEyygZkWX”.
Jamie Raskin was born in Washington D.C. in 1962 and resides in Takoma Park at age 60. He previously served in both the Maryland House of Representatives and Maryland Senate before entering Congress in 2017 after replacing Chris Van Hollen. Raskin holds degrees from Harvard University (BA) and Harvard Law School (JD).
