U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin, who serves Maryland’s 8th district, addressed several national and international issues in a series of posts on December 15, 2025.

In response to recent events overseas, Raskin wrote: “After this weekend’s antisemitic terror attack in Australia, it is more important than ever that people assemble for Hanukkah. May the Festival of Lights shine brightly in Jewish homes and communities throughout the world.” (posted December 15, 2025).

Turning to domestic policy concerns later that day, Raskin commented on healthcare subsidies: “Not extending ACA subsidies means millions of our people will have to choose between seeing the doctor and buying groceries or paying rent. GOP cruelty is not good for public health.” (posted December 15, 2025).

Raskin also paid tribute to two recently deceased public figures: “The world has lost two magnificently creative human beings in Rob and Michele Reiner. Their violent deaths add to the darkness of these days, but their humor, their compassion and their love for the world shine an imperishable light.” (posted December 15, 2025).

Jamie Raskin has represented Maryland’s 8th District in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Chris Van Hollen. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in both chambers of Maryland’s state legislature from 2007 through 2016. Born in Washington D.C. in 1962 and currently residing in Takoma Park at age 60, Raskin is a graduate of Harvard University with degrees from both its undergraduate college and law school.
