Nasahurricaneirma1000x667

Town of Chevy Chase issued the following announcement on Sept. 13.

In anticipation of upcoming severe weather due to Hurricane Florence, the Town wants to remind residents of important emergency preparedness and response information.

Preparedness

Please visit the following links for more information on how to prepare for a severe storm, including a hurricane or tropical storm.

Emergencies

Always call 911 in case of emergencies.

Police Non-Emergency Number

To report non-emergency situations, please call 301-279-8000.

Trees and Power Lines

Report downed trees and power lines to the police by calling 911 in emergencies. For non-emergencies, call 301-279-8000. The Town arborist will survey the Town following significant storms. The arborist will identify any damage to Town trees and notify the Town’s tree maintenance contractor for immediate remediation. The Town will report all downed power lines to PEPCO.

Power Outages

Please report power outages directly to PEPCO at 1-877-PEPCO-62 (1-877-737-2662) to ensure that PEPCO knows you are without service and can schedule repairs. You may also report and track an outage through PEPCO's mobile app or its website at pepco.com.

In the event of a power outage, we will make every effort to make the Town Hall available for public use. The Town will notify residents by available communication methods if the Town Hall will be open.

Water & Sewer

To report a water or sewer line break, sewer back-up or stoppage, or fire hydrant leak, call the WSSC Emergency line at 301-206-4002.

Communications

The Town will use voicemail, the Town website and Town Crier to communicate with residents during storms. We will attempt to relay Town service interruptions (e.g. canceled trash collection, etc.) in a timely way.

Office Coverage

During significant storms, Town staff may not be able to maintain a presence in the Town office. However, staff is able to monitor voicemail and e-mail remotely as well as to update the Town’s voicemail and website and to send Town Crier and Alert TOCC messages to residents.
